Softball Recap: Providence Finds Home Field Redemption Against Westridge

There's no place like home for Providence, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Westridge Tigers a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Pioneers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Madelynn Watts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mia Allinson was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Delailah Lopez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Providence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Providence back to even at 3-3. As for Westridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5-1.

Coming up, Providence will head out on the road to face off against Bishop Alemany at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westridge, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Chadwick at 3:30 p.m.
