Softball Recap: Monticello Extends Home Winning Streak to 18

Monticello waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Cassidee Stoffel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Monticello saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Leatherwood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Monticello's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, they moved to 19-8 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will head out to challenge Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, they will venture away from home to square off against Mahomet-Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
