Poly was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Liberty Bison 3-2. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bison, too.
Poly had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 23-25, 28-26, 25-17, 15-8.
Dakota Carvo paced Poly's offense, picking up 23 kills. Carvo got some help from Marley Wulfestieg and her 15 assists. Maylene Muniz controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Cadence Drumm and Mia Chiu certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Drumm had 18 digs and one block, while Chiu had 29 digs and one assist. Chiu has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more digs the last four times she's played.
Poly is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
