Recap: Matanzas Pirates vs. University Titans

The Matanzas Pirates entered their tilt with the University Titans with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Matanzas walked away with a 78-69 win over University on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Matanzas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Henry Robinson Jr. led the charge by dropping a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds. The game was Robinson Jr. 's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rya'sir Jefferson , who scored 29 points along with four steals.

When it comes to explaining why University lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aidon Amoah. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gilmer, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds.

Matanzas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for University, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Matanzas will take on University Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. University won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against DeLand at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully DeLand focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Thursday.
