Basketball Recap: Modesto Comes Up Short

Modesto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss. They took a blow against the Gregori Jaguars, falling 84-41. The Panthers lost against the Jaguars in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 71-59 score last time.

Gregori got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayson Powers out in front who went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Powers' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kaleb Smith was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points.

Modesto's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Gregori, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Modesto has already played their next game (against Turlock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gregori is taking a road trip to face off against Pitman at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gregori is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.9 points per game this season.
