Baseball Recap: Garrett Takes a Loss

Garrett had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Columbia City Eagles by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Railroaders have suffered since May 7, 2024.

Garrett saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gage Pyck, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Columbia City, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Columbia City's side, not much got past Carter Wilkinson, who gave up just three hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Garrett off the board. Wilkinson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trey Deckman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Lukus Schmitt, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garrett will challenge Eastside at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Columbia City, they will take on New Haven at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
