Baseball Recap: Filer Takes a Loss

Filer extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Fremont Cougars. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 11-8.

Wyatt Blass was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed over his last four contests. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Blass wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hyde Bangerter, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one double.

As for South Fremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.

On South Fremont's side, Cy Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Hill has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Fremont let Tayson Farley and Jordan Hammond run wild. Farley went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Hammond went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Farley has posted since back in March.

While Filer had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
