Football Game Preview: McAllen Bulldogs vs. Rowe Warriors

McAllen and Rowe are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (McAllen has three straight wins, Rowe has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, McAllen strolled past Mission with points to spare, taking the game 38-23.

It was another big night for McCoy Wolthoff, who rushed for 132 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 191 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 132 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: McAllen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 335 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Rowe fought the good fight in their overtime game against McAllen Memorial on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 33-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since August 29, 2024.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Alexander Lopez Negrete and Braxton Speights. Speights had a great game and rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Lopez Negrete was balling out in the loss, rushing for 137 yards and one score.

McAllen's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Rowe, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

McAllen beat Rowe 21-14 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
