Basketball Recap: Milford Christian Takes a Loss

Milford Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 74-37 loss at the hands of the Woodlawn Baptist Academy Wolverines. The Conquerors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-24.

Despite the defeat, Milford Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Keegan Fitzwater posted seven points. Fitzwater has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Esdras Mateo, who put up eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Milford Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Leading Woodlawn Baptist Academy to victory were Aaden Tripp and Bruce Ventura. Tripp had 22 points, while Ventura earned 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Batres, who scored ten points.

Milford Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Woodlawn Baptist Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bayview Christian the next time they take the court. Woodlawn Baptist Academy will head out to face Bayview Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while Milford Christian will host them at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
