League recap: Hazlehurst stuns Wilkinson County in upset

3A Region 7 recap Oct. 16, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Wilkinson County, who took down 31st ranked Wilkinson County, 35-22. Kenneth Coleman threw for 250 yards and ran for 32 yards in the win.

Prentiss moved up to 189 from 227 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 7. The Bulldogs were able to make the jump by losing to Jefferson County 14-12.

Hazlehurst's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Aaron Larry chipped in 75 yards. Dycelious Reese helped Hazlehurst's passing attack out by catching two balls for 53 yards.

Dedric Reese was the best wideout in the league this week as the Indians defeated the Wildcats. Reese tallied five receptions for 104 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Coleman and Demetrius Cain Hazlehurst has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Coleman leads the league in passing with 1446 yards, while Cain has rushed for 840 yards this season. Wilkinson County's Allenzae Staggers leads the league in receiving yards with 588 on 36 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on Randal Montgomery's team. Jefferson County is in third place, while the Indians are in first place.

James Herrington's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 3A Region 7. The Tigers vanquished Prentiss 14-12 earlier in the week.
