Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Waverly

Waverly had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Eastern Warriors.

Lexi Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Hudnell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Hayden Jones was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Waverly's record is now 11-12. As for Eastern, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.

Coming up, Waverly will host Unioto at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Shermans have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
