Basketball Game Preview: Cape Henlopen Vikings vs. Decatur Seahawks

The Cape Henlopen Vikings will square off against the Decatur Seahawks at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Last Friday, couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 61-24 stomp they got against Mountain View. That looming 61-24 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Vikings yet this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Decatur, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 62-42 margin over Mardela on Thursday. The Seahawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Decatur's win came from a few key players Cape Henlopen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Judah Carmack, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those three steals gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Davin Chandler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Decatur's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Cape Henlopen, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Cape Henlopen came up short against Decatur when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 65-56. Thankfully for Cape Henlopen, Brycen Coleman (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
