Basketball Recap: Ashley Weltruski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverside over Fullerton

Riverside lost against Fullerton back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Riverside Chargers took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fullerton Warriors. The defeat leaves the Chargers without a win on the season.

Riverside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashley Weltruski, who posted nine points and four steals. Tessa Weltruski was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Fullerton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaci Maxfield led the charge by posting 13 points along with five assists and five blocks. Those five blocks gave Maxfield a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Pickrel, who had 11 points and six boards.

Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Fullerton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

Riverside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-20 loss against Chambers/Wheeler Central on the 19th. As for Fullerton, they will host Twin River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
