Baseball Game Preview: Springs Valley Blackhawks vs. Barr-Reeve Vikings

Springs Valley hasn't had much luck against Barr-Reeve recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Blackhawks will head out on the road to take on the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Springs Valley barely beat Mitchell the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blackhawks were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Bluejackets on Saturday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Braylon Kovas and Landon Weeks made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kovas tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Weeks pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Kovas posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Kovas scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Weeks scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Noah Allstott was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackey Lowe, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Springs Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only posted a batting average of .091.

Meanwhile, Barr-Reeve strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Evansville North.

Barr-Reeve pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Springs Valley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
