Basketball Recap: Jaquarius Davis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lee Central over Marlboro County

Lee Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Marlboro County Bulldogs on the road by a 73-56 margin. If the Stallions were looking for revenge after losing 69-34 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lee Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaquarius Davis, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and five boards. Rontavious Copeland also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

Even though they lost, Lee Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

It was another big night for Ralphier Monroe, who posted 26 points for Marlboro County. The dominant performance gave Monroe a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Isiah Whitner, who earned 14 points.

Lee Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Marlboro County, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.

Lee Central will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Riverwalk Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 28th. Lee Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season. Marlboro County also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Aynor at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th. Aynor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
