Volleyball Recap: Platte County Pirates vs. Liberty North Eagles
Platte County lost against Liberty North back in September of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Pirates took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 25-19 in the first set.
Platte County started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-12.
Malin Cole paced Platte County's offense, picking up 18 kills. Cole got some help from Ella Cruce and her 18 assists. Cruce was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.
Liberty North's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Derenzy, who had 24 digs and two assists. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Grohs, who had 18 digs and one assist.
Platte County's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 18-11-2. As for Liberty North, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-15.
As of now, neither Platte County nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
