Baseball Recap: South Walton Has No Trouble Against Edgewood Academy

While South Walton put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Edgewood Academy. South Walton blew past Edgewood Academy 18-0. That looming 18-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Seahawks yet this season.

Cameron Tipton-Thomas and Nathan Whitney made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Tipton-Thomas pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Whitney tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Tipton-Thomas a new career-low. At the plate, Tipton-Thomas scored two runs while getting on base in both of his plate appearances, while Whitney went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other pitching news, Charlie Willcox looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

Back at the plate, South Walton got a massive performance out of Frank Wells, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jackson Perkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

South Walton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for South Walton and bumps their season record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Edgewood Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-4.

Looking ahead, South Walton will be playing in front of their home fans against Arnold at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arnold will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something South Walton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Edgewood Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bessemer Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be Edgewood Academy's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
