Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Florida). They escaped with a win on Thursday against the St. Paul's Episcopal Saints by the margin of a single free throw, 78-77. The win was all the more spectacular given the Jaguars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 525th in Florida, while the Saints are ranked 130th in Alabama).

West Florida got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jakobe Fairley out in front who went 6 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Those 21 points gave Fairley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Likely, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for West Florida and bumps their season record up to 4-7. As for St. Paul's Episcopal, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

When West Florida and St. Paul's Episcopal next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. West Florida will try to stop Harrison Central's three-game winning streak when the meet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, St. Paul's Episcopal will try to stop Vigor's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
