Basketball Recap: Micah Huffman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Covenant Day over Providence Day

Covenant Day lost against Providence Day on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The contest between the Covenant Day Lions and the Providence Day Chargers didn't end well, with the Covenant Day Lions falling 67-53. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Chargers are ranked fourth).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Micah Huffman, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points. That's the most points Huffman has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chris Rivens, who posted 14 points and five boards.

Covenant Day has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Providence Day, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.

Covenant Day will square off against Charlotte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Covenant Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season. As for Providence Day, they will face off against Charlotte Country Day School at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Providence Day's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 games.
