Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Falls Despite Big Games from Victoria Hlavaty and Clauriannys Berrios

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hillcrest can now relate to. They fell 56-45 to the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 773rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 125th).

Hillcrest's loss came despite strong showings from Clauriannys Berrios and Victoria Hlavaty. Berrios went 8-for-14 en route to 19 points and six rebounds, while Hlavaty posted 17 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Hlavaty a new career-high in points. Rachael Richard was another key player, putting up seven points.

Midlothian Heritage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Danaya Hicks led the charge by scoring 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Finch, who earned 11 points.

Hillcrest's loss dropped their record down to 16-14. As for Midlothian Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 26-10 record this season.

Hillcrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Midlothian Heritage, they will face off against Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Midlothian Heritage surely won't give up without a fight.
