Softball Game Preview: Beauregard Hornets vs. Central Red Devils

The Beauregard Hornets will head out to challenge the Central Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Beauregard 3.7, Central 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Beauregard's offense. They fell just short of Auburn by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Central came tearing into Saturday's game with 21 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Rebels as they made off with a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won 26 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Allyson Supan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Mariah Harrison was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gerritt Griggs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in ten consecutive contests.

Beauregard's loss dropped their record down to 24-11. As for Central, their record is now 39-3.

Beauregard suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Central in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
