Baseball Recap: Hopewell Takes a Loss

Hopewell pushed their score to 13 the last time they played Shenango, but on Friday they couldn't quite do it again. The Hopewell Vikings fell just short of the Shenango Wildcats by a score of 2-1. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

David Medich was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Hopewell saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kingston Krotec, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Hopewell's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopewell will challenge Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shenango will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th. The last five games Shenango has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
