Softball Game Preview: Bellflower Buccaneers vs. Paramount Pirates

The Bellflower Buccaneers will head out to face off against the Paramount Pirates at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bellflower has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bellflower is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Norwalk just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Lancers, falling 18-0. The shutout was out of character for the Buccaneers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Meanwhile, Paramount waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with a 24-2 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Delylah Zermeno was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, SAMANTHA MERCADO was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Francheska Torres was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one double.

Paramount always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .842. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lynwood only posted an OBP of .263.

Paramount's record is now 13-4-1. As for Bellflower, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Bellflower might still be hurting after the 30-5 loss they got from Paramount in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
