Basketball Recap: Cypress Lake Comes Up Short

Cypress Lake was the 69-45 winner over Port Charlotte when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cypress Lake Panthers were dealt a 77-35 defeat at the hands of the Port Charlotte Pirates on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while the Pirates are ranked 94th).

Cypress Lake's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zeke Dube-Garrett, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Joe Banks was another key player, putting up 13 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Cypress Lake and nudges their season record down to 7-12. As for Port Charlotte, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.

Cypress Lake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 77-45 defeat against Naples on the 23rd. Port Charlotte has also already played their next game, a 58-45 win against Fort Myers on the 22nd.
