Softball Game Preview: Alton Redbirds vs. Belleville West Maroons

The Alton Redbirds will venture away from home to take on the Belleville West Maroons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alton has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Alton's offense. They came up short against Edwardsville on Thursday, falling 11-0. The Redbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Henkhaus, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Belleville West didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Vernon on Saturday and fell 2-1.

Ellaina Jenkins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April.

Belleville West's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-12. As for Alton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-17.

Alton suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Belleville West when the teams last played back in April. Can the Redbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
