Basketball Game Preview: Panther Creek Panthers vs. Van Alstyne Panthers

The Panther Creek Panthers will face off against the Van Alstyne Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Panther Creek took on Celina on Friday. Panther Creek was the clear victor by an 83-59 margin over Celina.

Meanwhile, Van Alstyne fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Aubrey on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Chaparrals 61-55. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 796th, while the Chaparrals are ranked 131st).

Panther Creek is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Van Alstyne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-16.

Panther Creek couldn't quite finish off Van Alstyne in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 53-50. Can Panther Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
