Recap: Mulvane Wildcats vs. Collegiate Spartans

The Mulvane Wildcats fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Collegiate Spartans on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 55-53. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mulvane of the 65-44 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Mulvane's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aiden Mckee, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds, and Manny Myers who scored 14 points. That was a full 37.7% of Mulvane's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Canon Lazier, who scored five points.
Mulvane's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Collegiate, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mulvane will square off against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buhler will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Wildcats are ranked 52nd). As for Collegiate, they will head out on the road to square off against the Bullpups at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. McPherson is on a eight-game streak of home wins, the Spartans a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
