Football Recap: East Carteret Mariners vs. Swansboro Pirates
East Carteret fought the good fight in their overtime game against Swansboro on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. The Mariners were up 21-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Several Mariners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke McIntosh, who threw for 129 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards and one score. East Carteret's leading receiver Jackson Greene was McIntosh's top target yet again, picking up 85 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Swansboro found their leader in sophomore Carmello Beasley, who picked up 149 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Beasley showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 50 yards.
East Carteret is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Swansboro, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
East Carteret has already played their next matchup, a 41-21 victory against American Leadership Academy-Johnston on the 19th. As for Swansboro, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 52-0 loss against Croatan on the 19th.
