Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Vanden

Vanden had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Pioneer Patriots by a score of 40-27. The Vikings have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

A big part of Vanden's win came down to the chemistry between Xavier Zambrano and his top target Kimani Dokes. Zambrano threw for 269 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt while Dokes picked up 110 receiving yards and one touchdown. Dokes' longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards.

Vanden didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dokes and Elisaia Caden. Caden got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Pioneer still got an impressive performance from Jordan Constancio, who threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

Vanden's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Pioneer, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. After each having a week off, Vanden and Merced will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least 31 points in their last nine matchups. As for Pioneer, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hughson at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Joe Mendez and Eli Wilbanks.
