Baseball Game Preview: Firebaugh Eagles vs. Mendota Aztecs

The Firebaugh Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Mendota Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Things were looking good for Firebaugh after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 9-4 to Dos Palos. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Broncos recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Firebaugh saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. The Eagles are 5-2 when Rodriguez posts two or more runs, but 4-16 otherwise. Ronnie Leyva also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mendota had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Avenal with a sharp 14-5 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Aztecs, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

The victory got Mendota back to even at 13-13. As for Firebaugh, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-18.

Firebaugh suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Mendota in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
