Softball Recap: Smithville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Firestone

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Norwayne, Smithville was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Firestone Falcons. The Smithies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

ZeAnna Cyrus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlin Walsh-Knouff, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Reiley Evans, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Smithville's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10. As for Firestone, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Smithville has already played their next game, a 6-2 win against Canton Central Catholic on the 28th. Firestone has also already played their next match (against East), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
