Basketball Recap: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Skates Past Tidewater Academy with Ease

While Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Tidewater Academy Warriors 57-24 on Monday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Warriors are ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Hamner, who went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of John Loftin, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 14 points and six steals.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Tidewater Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Camden Hawkins posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Fillmore, who put up six points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, bringing their record for this year to 5-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Tidewater Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-59 victory against Westover Christian Academy on the 20th. As for Tidewater Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-29 win against The New Community School on the 20th.
