Shenango and Riverside are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shenango is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Shenango is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Laurel on Thursday. They lost 9-1 to the Spartans. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Shenango saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Byerly, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Riverside got themselves on the board against Freedom Area on Wednesday, but Freedom Area never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 20-0. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jasmine Ewing, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That hit marked the first that she has got this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Friello, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom Area only posted an OBP of .182.
Shenango's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Riverside, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Shenango's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Riverside, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Shenango continue to outrun the ball?
Shenango took their win against Riverside when the teams last played on April 3rd by a conclusive 11-3 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
