Baseball Recap: Burton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Leadership last Wednesday, Burton came back down to earth. The Burton Pumas fell 7-3 to the Galileo Lions on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Pumas in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost six in a row.

Christian Pabalate was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

Pabalate wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zimry Rucker, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Rucker has become a key player for Burton: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise. Another was Elias Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Burton's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for Galileo, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burton will challenge KIPP SF College Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Burton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Galileo, they will take on Leadership at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
