Baseball Recap: Mitchell Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Mitchell came into Thursday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Loogootee Lions by a score of 7-4 on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bluejackets also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Gavin Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dason Kerr, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mitchell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Ryker Moore was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Loogootee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will welcome Crawford County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolfpack have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.05 runs per game on average), something the Bluejackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Loogootee, they will host Tecumseh at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.3 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
