Basketball Recap: Sumter Find Success

Sumter had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins by a score of 62-53. This was payback for the Gamecocks, who suffered a 61-55 loss the last time these two teams met.

Defeat or not, Orangeburg-Wilkinson got some senior leadership from Jordan McGahee and Jordan Robins. McGahee dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Robins shot 70% from the field to rack up 16 points and seven boards. McGahee is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Jamison, who posted seven points.

Looking ahead, Sumter will be taking part in a tournament against A.C. Flora at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Orangeburg-Wilkinson, they will square off against Brookland-Cayce at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
