Basketball Recap: Ben Trompke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Loomis over Bertrand

Loomis is still winless after their game against Bertrand on Saturday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bertrand Vikings. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Trompke, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 24 points. With that strong performance, Trompke is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Schukar, who posted 16 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Loomis was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Marcus Hernandez was nothing short of spectacular for Bertrand: he went 6 of 14 on his way to 21 points along with seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Hatfield, who put up 12 points and six rebounds.

Loomis' loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bertrand, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Loomis will welcome Cambridge at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Cambridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. As for Bertrand, they will venture away from home to face off against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
