Baseball Game Preview: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Plattsmouth Blue Devils

Fort Calhoun is 0-10 against Plattsmouth since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. Fort Calhoun will host Plattsmouth. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Fort Calhoun and Wayne, and Fort Calhoun kept the tradition alive. Fort Calhoun walked away with an 8-3 win over Wayne on Tuesday.

Kenny Wellwood and Sam Genoways made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wellwood didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Genoways struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Furthermore, Wellwood didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At bat, Wellwood got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Genoways went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Eric Koterba was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Chase Bierman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Plattsmouth hadn't done well against Gross Catholic recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Plattsmouth sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Gross Catholic. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.

Fort Calhoun suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Plattsmouth when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Fort Calhoun avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
