Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Northridge's Winning Streak

Northridge and Air Academy squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Northridge had to settle for second. They came up short against the Air Academy Kadets, falling 70-48. The Grizzlies' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Northridge lost, don't look at Sophia Carbajal. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards. Carbajal's evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Maya Burkholder was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

Air Academy was led to victory by Tatyonna Brown and Kinley Asp. Brown went 9-for-14 en route to 19 points and eight boards, while Asp shot 43% from the field to rack up 16 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Asp has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Flowers, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Northridge's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Air Academy, their win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-0.

Northridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Air Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-25 victory against Durango on the 7th.
