Baseball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Calvary Christian Academy's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Calvary Christian Academy was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They skirted past the Killian Cougars 8-7. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Preston Bielec made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Carlos Lugo was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Calvary Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-4-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Braden Rosenthal, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Calvary Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. Killian's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8.

Coming up, Calvary Christian Academy will venture away from home to challenge Westminster Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Calvary Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Killian, they will welcome Coral Reef at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
