Softball Recap: Albany Comes Up Short

Albany extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks. The Falcons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blue Streaks from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Saratoga Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Saratoga Springs' part, Jackie Cutting made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cutting has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Ava Goodman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Emily Ruscio was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Albany will venture away from home to take on Guilderland at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Flying Dutchmen's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Saratoga Springs, they will head out to challenge Columbia at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
