Preview: Marcellus Mustangs vs. Bishop Grimes Cobras
Marcellus is 0-4 against Bishop Grimes since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Marcellus Mustangs will be playing at home against the Bishop Grimes Cobras at 7:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marcellus has nine straight victories, Bishop Grimes has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, Marcellus gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They claimed a resounding 73-31 victory over Skaneateles on the road. Given Marcellus' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Skaneateles is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcellus got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Codey Kociela out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Kociela scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Burnett, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bishop Grimes pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 72-64 to Bishop Ludden.
Marcellus pushed their record up to 18-1 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bishop Grimes, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Marcellus came up short against Bishop Grimes when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 69-56. Will Marcellus have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
