Softball Game Preview: Fisher Gators vs. Ascension Catholic Bulldogs

The Fisher Gators will venture away from home to challenge the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Fisher is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, Fisher came up short against Pearl River and fell 11-7.

Cali Harvey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jessie Schutt, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Ascension Catholic was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They lost 15-2 to Lutcher. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for Ascension Catholic, who until this contest were averaging 3.69 runs allowed.

Ascension Catholic saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Theriot, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Fisher has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Ascension Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fisher has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ascension Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Fisher might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Ascension Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
