Softball Game Preview: Dunbar Tigers vs. Everglades City Gators

The Dunbar Tigers will challenge the Everglades City Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

Dunbar fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lehigh on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lightning by a score of 28-26. The Tigers have struggled against the Lightning recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meetings.

Arianna Corgelas was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing Seven bases. while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Diana Cano-Mendez, who scored three runs and stole Seven bases. while getting on base in three of her seven plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .642. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Everglades City entered their game against Mason Classical Academy on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Everglades City fell just short of Mason Classical Academy by a score of 9-7. The loss was the Gators' first of the season.

Olivia Demere made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Miranda O'Connell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Everglades City fell to 3-1. As for Dunbar, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dunbar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .543. However, it's not like Everglades City struggles in that department as they've averaged .583. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
