Softball Game Preview: Orange Beach Makos vs. McCracken County Mustangs

Orange Beach has won 20 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while McCracken County has won 20 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Makos will welcome the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Orange Beach 1.1, McCracken County 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Orange Beach is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Spanish Fort, who was ranked eighth at the time (Orange Beach was ranked second). The Makos' pitcher stepped up to hand the Toros a 4-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Not much got past KG Favors, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Spanish Fort off the board. Favors has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daigle Wilson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Orange Beach hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spanish Fort struck out 12 times.

Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, McCracken County's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against Walker Valley, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, McCracken County couldn't push the score so high this time.

Orange Beach's win bumped their record up to 23-1. As for McCracken County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-2.

Orange Beach took their victory against McCracken County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Makos repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
