Baseball Recap: Albany Comes Up Short at Home Against San Rafael

Albany unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Rafael Bulldogs on Wednesday. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Albany got a good showing from Jude Hatamiya, who struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits.

On the hitting side, Mikey Richards was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

San Rafael's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Albany is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will challenge Sonoma Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for San Rafael, they will face off against Analy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
