Basketball Recap: Luke Larson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lincoln East over Grand Island

Lincoln East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grand Island Islanders. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Islanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Lincoln East lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Luke Larson, who posted 17 points in addition to six boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Larson a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Lowell, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Lincoln East was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Lincoln East's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Grand Island, their record now sits at 7-9.

When Lincoln East and Grand Island next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Lincoln East will try to stop Westview's eight-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. Meanwhile, Grand Island will take on Lincoln North Star and their five-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
