Basketball Recap: Yuma Beats Strasburg for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Yuma came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 68-63 W against the Strasburg Indians. This was payback for the Outlaws, who suffered a 68-59 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Yuma's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Sheffield led the charge by dropping a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Sheffield a new career-high. Alex Pensado was another key player, putting up 15 points and five assists.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nick Glatfelter, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Glatfelter has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Hopwood, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Yuma's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. As for Strasburg, their loss dropped their record down to 15-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yuma will host Windsor Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Windsor Charter Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Strasburg, they will welcome Forge Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Strasburg's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.
