Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Centralia Orphans
The Mt. Vernon Rams will be playing at home against the Centralia Orphans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mt. Vernon will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
Last Thursday, Mt. Vernon didn't have too much trouble with Althoff Catholic at home as they won 64-48. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Althoff Catholic is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kamaree Pollard was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight assists and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiara Johnson, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Centralia suffered their biggest loss since December 28, 2023 on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 66-46 walloping at the hands of Mater Dei. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Centralia in their matchups with Mater Dei: they've now lost five in a row.
Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Centralia, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-9.
Mt. Vernon didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Centralia in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 59-54 win. Will Mt. Vernon repeat their success, or does Centralia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
