Volleyball Recap: Chaparral Falls Despite Big Games from Maya Raza and Shay Roddy

After flying high against Vista Murrieta on Tuesday, Chaparral came back down to earth. The Pumas fell 3-1 to the Murrieta Mesa Rams on Thursday. The Pumas were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17.

Shay Roddy and Maya Raza certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Roddy had 31 digs and four assists, while Raza had ten digs and four aces. Roddy is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last nine games she's played. Isla Melton was another key player, getting 12 assists and four digs.

Among those leading the charge was Livie Corelli, who had 14 digs and two assists. That's the most digs she has posted since back in October of 2024.

Chaparral's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Murrieta Mesa, they have been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chaparral is set to face off against their familiar foe Temecula Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Murrieta Mesa will take on rival Murrieta Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
